Does anyone have any good recommendations for Sock Blockers? Do they work? Are they just for show? What are your thoughts? I know I could just bend a wire hanger to my will, but I feel like splurging just a bit.
For my non-knitters - a sock blocker is a flat piece of wood or plastic that is shaped like a foot. When you wash a hand-knit sock, you put it on the blocker to dry & to retain the "foot shape."

ooo, that's very interesting! Thank-you for that, maybe that will come up in a pub quizz one day!

You know what's funny? I've been researching this *exact* same thing lately! Supposedly, according to Ann Budd sock designer extraordinaire, you don't need to block a sock at all. Just wear it around for an hour and it will be good she says. I've also noticed that a lot of Europeans do not understand the purpose of sock blocking and have never done this in their life. So, I guess it's not really necessary. But I'm thinking of getting some for SITM just because I feel kind of weird wearing socks that I'm going to give to someone else (even though I wouldn't be walking around in them or anything). Plus, it might be kind of fun to have something pretty to photograph them on. I came across some better links for making your own (nicer than the coat hanger version) so if you're interested, send me a quick note and I'll pass them on to you. I'm going to Vegas tomorrow though, so don't worry if I don't respond immediately :) Hope that helps! Have a great weekend!
You might try Leggy Creations (http://leggycreations.com/) for something really unique. Her stock is low right now but they're really swell blockers.
You can, of course, get Fiber Trends blockers in the blue composition plastic, which hold up well for wet blocking. (http://www.fibertrends.com/viewer/patterns/0_sockblockers.html)
You should also see what the Loopy Ewe has in stock (http://www.theloopyewe.com/browse/fun-accessories/the-loopy-ewe-sock-blockers/)
There you have it: pretty and functional. Hope this helps!
Thanks Knittymuggins and La Cabeza - great ideas. I love the Leggy Creations ones... super pretty.
